Oscar Update!

I couldn't stand not watching the Oscars. So, with the creative placement of the bunny ears on a chair, with the cable attaching the ears to the TV carefully draped over the corner of the TV, I managed to get fuzzy yet audible reception. No color. It allowed me to hear Jon Stewart's jokes and get the gist of who was on stage. I was thrilled for Diablo Cody and Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova for their awards. With the exception of best song and some of the technical sound awards, my predictions came up short. The 2 best things of the night was the presentation by Seth Rogen and Jonah Hill (of Superbad), and allowing Marketa Irglova to come back onto the stage after her time ran out during her speech. Classy.

Shannon and I went to see Juno the other day, Hmmm. It took me (us, actually) a good twenty minutes to settle into this world of arch hipsterdom where everyone speaks as if they're reading a script. Once past that, it was a rather sweet little indie film, with some very nice perfomances (and a very endearing lead). However, the studied kookiness really did grate - along with all those knowingly 'cool' (i.e. deeply uncool, actually) references to bands like Sonic Youth, The Melvins and the near useless (these days anyway) Patti Smith. Ugh.

Much better was No Country For Old Men. Now there's a film....

As long as Daniel Day-Lewis won Best Actor, I was happy.
