Wonderful

If you've ever been married to me, dated me or been friends with me you probably know that I love the film It's a Wonderful Life. I think it is safe to say that this is a movie adored mainly by women, and not men. I popped the TV on the other night when I climbed into bed in the spare bedroom. It's the only room upstairs we have with heat. The movie was on NBC. It was during the crucial last 20 minutes, where George is learning what Bedford Falls/Pottersville is like without his existence. I wept as he desperately ran around the town. Although I don't know how my current husband feels, Tim, my first husband violently hated the movie. I don't know if it had to do with his own unhappiness or not, but Christmas for him was not always good. I, on the other hand, love this time of year. I like reminding people that they are remembered and cared for. I may be as sappy as Frank Capra, but it's something I feel strongly about. I know what it's like to feel like you are the only person in the world, even if you are in a relationship with someone or surrounded by people.

I feel guilty admitting this, but one of my staff is on vacation this week and it has been heavenly without her. I rocked her story time, letting the moms know from the get go that the last time I did story time, no one ever came back again. That broke the ice. We had stories, songs, bells, maracas, and dancing. It was all the stuff 2 year-olds love. I had a blast.
