Happy Canucks

I learned something new today: "A Boy Named Sue," was written by Shel Silverstein. This makes sense, although it could have been written by Cash during one of his drug induced episodes. I learned this as I drove home in the rain from the grocery store. I had been listening to Sinead O'Connor's I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got a little too much so I switched to the radio. I put MPR on and American Routes was playing Tribute to Johnny Cash. I got home and worked out for a while, listening to the program.

Today was a day of domesticity, as many Sundays tend to be. I overslept, got some coffee, went to church, got my groceries, made a key lime pie and felafel, and went to visit L at the fire station. We were up late last night visiting my parents, who also invited a couple who were coming by to say good-bye. His VISA was up and they were getting ready to return to Germany. He is German, she is Czech and they have 4 children ranging between 9 months and 8 years old. The family is probably the kindest group of people I have ever met. The children are kind, compassionate and seem unsullied by the crap of the world. I will miss them a lot. They once provided me a safe place to stay when I needed one.

Canadians are happier than Americans, according to the Happy Planet Index. Why is this? I can't explain it except Canadians see and learn about the world, whereas Americans think they are the world.

I find that all the Canadians I have come in contact with are very happy people.
