Spring, fistulas, and faith

In the spirit of looking forward to spring, I give you Saint Fiacre. Although I am not fond of the Catholic faith, I do love saints. I saw this saint's picture on an advertisement for GreenPrints, a gardening magazine. Saint Fiacre is the patron saint of gardening, herbal healing, and fistulas. What a mix.

I suppose the allure of the saints is that I never was exposed to them as a kid attending a Protestant church. I prayed and asked for miracles, but I had no idea that I could pray to Saint Anthony, or many others. Now I enjoy celebrating a mixture of faiths, because I can.
