Let sleeping dogs lie?

I used to scoff at people and their family beds, like I scoff at advocates of breast feeding until your child can have a philosophical conversation with you. We have a family bed of sorts, the co-sleeping of interspecies. This is not something I ever did until I met L. Is this a good idea? I'm not sure. It is cozy and nice on these frigid evenings, especially in a house which only has one heated room upstairs.
