Reunited and it feels so good

I heard a snippet of news on my way home from work tonight. Rage Against the Machine will be reuniting for the 2007 Coachella Festival. Could it be true? Well, yes. I was also excited to see that the Jesus & Mary Chain, Crowded House, Willie Nelson, Amos Lee, and the Black Keys will also be performing, along with many other eclectic groups. Would it be possible for me, or us, to attend these concerts. I don't think so. It would be great. It would be wonderful, but I'm trying to be practical. It's just exciting to think of all the great music out there, and a band like Rage who has lots of important things to say and people willing to listen.

I think they had to add an extra day this year. By the way, I can hear everything from the festival at work. My golf course is about 2 minutes from the polo grounds.

Have you ever listened to Arcade Fire? They are going to be there, I think they are pretty good.

That's so weird. I had just finished listening to an iTunes mix I had made which included the Arcade Fire prior to reading your post. I like them very much.

You are very lucky to be so close and be able to take advantage of the "cheap seats." Does it attract a variety of people to town?

One striking memory of the one and only time I have been to CA was when I was on my honeymoon on my first marriage. We went to San Francisco for 2 weeks. The destination was my choice. We went on a daytrip to visit my cousin (whom I had only met once before) in Fresno. My husband made the sweeping statement that he had never seen so many one legged, homeless men as he had in San Francisco. I wanted to disintergrate on the sofa.

Wow. Fresno isn't that close to S.F. I used to live in Livermore. You might have driven through it on the way to Fresno. If you saw windmills, you drove through Livermore. I loved the S.F. area, but it was too expensive to live there. That is why we live by Coachella.

That week end (Coachella Festival)brings ALL types, but you see a lot of that here in the Palm Springs area. Just as many different types as the S.F. area.
There are biker weekends.
There are gay weekends.
3 or 4 PGA events.
Coachella Festival brings mostly younger college student types dressed kinda grungy, packed with only the essentials to get by as they sleep in their cars at the polo grounds. It sounds like great fun to me. I did a couple of things like that when I was a kid. I went to a 3 day event called the US festival when I was a teenager. I saw David Bowie, The Clash, The Pretenders, U2, Oingo Boingo, Men At Work, The Stray Cats, Flock Of Seagulls, Scorpions, Van Halen (they sucked), Berlin, Missing Persons and a bunch more. I definately needed a shower after that weekend.

I did drive through there! I often think of that view of the windmills when people bitch here about how intrusive they are to the landscape, noise, etc. I don't know how founded those complaints are. What's a little inconvenience compared to what energy extraction is doing to the environment, not to mention our dependency on foreign oil.

Anyway, I am jealous of your musical experiences. The closest I came to the Clash was working at the Hammersmith library, which is across the street from the Palais.

I'm famous for cramming daytrips into unreasonable amounts of time. Like driving a car from Paris to Normandy, while being navigated by my brother.

The irony of the whole windmill thing is that I now live where there are even more windmills! If you take I10 east into the Coachella Valley you will see many more windmills than when you are leaving Livermore.

I also saw The Clash open for The Who at the LA Colisium. The blew The Who away.
