Dicks

It was a really dreary weekend here. I contemplated organizing a yard sale, did some house cleaning and enjoyed the company of man and beasts (2 dogs that live here too).

L told me that he drove by the newly opened Dick's Sporting Goods store last week and there was a lone protester holding a sign which read, "If you Knew Dick's You Wouldn't Shop There." Hm. His co-worker asked him if he knew Dick's, and he said no, he had a hard enough time understanding women.

In any case, I wonder if the protest has to do with the low paying jobs it has created by trying to be the largest sporting goods chain? I have no idea. If anyone else does, tell me. This intrigues me. Ever since I read Barbara Ehrenreich's Nickel and Dimed I've found the idea of trying to live in today's society on minimum wage a marvel. I have struggled at times, although things are better now.
